sail-bike?

what about a bike that doesnt have pedals but instead a sail?

besides the bike, about 30 feet of good rope, an old bed sheet and a couple of good 6 foot sticks would be all that you would need. maybe a helmet would be a good idea too.

  • I'm no physicist ... but I'm thinking that there's gonna be too much ...friction, is that the word? between bike and ground, compared to boat and water.

  • Hey! Did you google it yet? Check http://www.vsv.cape.com/~harharb/windbike.html "Wear a helmet and heavy clothes. Do not try this unless you are a very experienced bike rider and thoroughly understand the power of sail."

  • yes!, in fact, i also found this site and also dug up the Nov '67 nattie geographic and read that articles about bike-sailing across the sahara.

    very intriguing!

they blew a lot of tires and this tells me it is not so practical and validates your thought that the amount of friction severely impairs its viability.
